You Posted That? is a Smosh series that first aired on November 13, 2017. In a departure from the traditional sketch comedy content of the main channel, the series is a game show (the first that did not air on Smosh Games) hosted by Ian Hecox with appearances of the Smosh Squad during the first two seasons. Consequently, as mentioned by Ian, episodes are notably longer than the average video length of the main channel, which is a 3 to 4-minute sketch. The show ran for three seasons before being canceled after the third season aired in 2019. In August 2023, a revival of the series on Smosh Pit was announced.

Background[]

The idea for a game show on the channel was first brought up in one of its videos, "What's going on with Smosh?!". The show was officially announced in one of its later videos, "Taking Smosh in a new direction." The show features special guests, primarily fellow YouTube stars, who reveal some of the most intimate things they have posted on the internet. This makes it the second Smosh series to feature special guests regularly, after the Smosh Games series Smosh Games Button Bash.

The winner/s gets to go out on center stage and claim their prize which "has never been done before in the history of histories". In season three, a cash donation to the charity of the winner's choice was offered instead.

Description[]

SMOSH presents…. YOU POSTED THAT? The game show where SMOSH asks the best people from the internet to come face-to-face with their worst social media posts in a friendly competition to win, well... something you’ve definitely never heard of! No matter the score, the audience wins every round as contestants’ hilarious and embarrassing tweets from years past are exposed and thoroughly roasted. Smosh co-founder IAN HECOX hosts, accompanied by announcer SHAYNE TOPP, the musical stylings of KEITH LEAK, JR. and SCOTT PASSARELLA, and pop-in appearances by NOAH GROSSMAN, COURTNEY MILLER, and OLIVIA SUI.

Overview[]

Since the show's inception, it was hosted by Ian, but the show also included a supporting cast for its first two seasons: Shayne Topp as the announcer, and Keith Leak Jr. and Scott Passarella from the Smosh Pit series, One Hour Song Machine, as the musical artists who would sing a little tune articulating what was seen and heard after each round.

Each episode of the series features three contestants, primarily fellow YouTubers, as they compete to win a unique prize (Seasons 1-2) or cash to be donated to the charity of the winner's choice (Season 3); no prizes were offered in the 2023 revival. The competition is separated into three rounds as follows:

You Posted That 2023 - Round 1

Round 1: You Posted That?[]

Contestants are presented with a post of theirs with some keywords blanked out, if they can correctly guess the missing words they earn 5 points, if not they get 0 points.

You Posted That 2023 - Round 2

Round 2: Is This Funny?[]

Contestants must decide whether a post of theirs is funny or not by giving a thumbs up or a thumbs down. The postee's name and handle are blanked out. If the majority deems the post to be funny, the poster shall be revealed and gain 5 points.

You Posted That 2023 - Round 3

Round 3: Match That Caption[]

Constants are given a caption from one of a contestant's Instagram posts and are then presented with 3 pictures from the contestant's Instagram, only one of them matches the caption, and contestants must figure out which picture the caption belongs to. Correct matches are worth additional points, and incorrect matches result in decreased points. It was originally titled Match My Caption, as the featured posts were all created by Ian, but was later changed to its current title to allow the contestants' posts to be featured instead.

You Posted That 2023 - Round 4

Round 4: IAAAAAAAAN![]

Introduced on the 2023 revival, it is similar to the second round, except that the featured post is always created by Ian, who has been known to have created posts in his account that he usually cringes at. Contestants must decide whether Ian's post is funny or not. However, this round is played after the winner is proclaimed, and thus does not affect the players' standing.

Other rounds[]

Match That Thumb[]

This round was performed in place of Match My Caption for Angela Giarratana, one of the contestants in "Roasting Our Cringey Tweets", as she has known to have created wacky faces for some of Smosh's thumbnails. Instead of posts, cropped-out faces from thumbnails are shown, and the title of the specific video is provided. The contestant must figure out which cropped-out face the title belongs to.

Beef Boyz[]

This round was performed in place of Match My Caption in the episode "Exposing Our Twitter Fights", as the contestants have been known to have been involved in "beef" on Twitter. In this round, a series of exchange posts that have "beef" involved are shown. The person who does not get involved in the exchange must declare the winner of the "beef", to which the winner receives additional points.

Trivia[]

  • The series used to have a theme song, which was sung by Keith and Scott: You posted that! (Clap, Clap!) Embarrassing things of your past! (Clap, Clap!) Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat, you posted that! (Clap, Clap!)
    • Starting Episode 5, the theme changed from “or Snapchat” to “but not Snapchat,” probably due to the reason that Snapchat is not included in any of the game’s rounds.
    • Beginning with the 2023 revival, the theme song is no longer used. In its place is a snippet from the song that mentions the show's title.
