A website is a digital collection of web pages and files accessible through the World Wide Web and the Internet via a domain name. Smosh Productions Inc. began in 2002 as the website Smosh.com, where the first reference to websites in Smosh media was made in "Oh, the Joys of Puberty," a 2002 Smosh.com article written by Ian Hecox.
Description[]
A website is a collection of web pages, files, and related resources accessible through the World Wide Web and the Internet via a domain name. They typically include HyperText Markup Language (HTML) documents, image files, scripted programs, and other files accessed through hypertext, hyperlinks, and a home page, a website's main web page. Websites are hosted on one or more web servers, which transfer files to client computers or other servers that request them using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), and many websites are made with a content management system (CMS) to manage the creation and modification of the website's content. All publicly-accessible websites collectively constitute the World Wide Web; private websites also exist that can only be accessed on a private network or Intranet.[1]
Fictional history[]
In 2002, fifteen-year-old Ian Hecox experienced a series of embarrassing events as a result of starting puberty; approximately four weeks into puberty, he opened The Official Ninja Webpage: Real Ultimate Power,[3] a satirical website created that year about ninjas[4] that included a fake tutorial to commit suicide through what was claimed to be a form of seppuku involving shoving a Frisbee down one's throat.[5] Hecox sincerely tried following the tutorial, but was unable to fit the Frisbee into his mouth and was ultimately unsuccessful. He was later forced to recount his experiences with puberty, including his attempt to follow the website's tutorial, in an article on Smosh.com while under threat from a group of killer gnomes. The article included a section entitled "The Reasons to love puberty," a list of reasons to enjoy puberty, the fourth of which was actually advice from Hecox to stay away from pornographic websites labeled "mature porn" unless one actually enjoyed such content.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Smosh Productions Inc. began as the website Smosh.com on Novemeber 10, 2002.[6] The concept of a website was introduced in Smosh media in the form of the satirical website The Official Ninja Webpage: Real Ultimate Power in "Oh, the Joys of Puberty," a Smosh.com article submitted by[3] Staff member Ian Hecox[7] under the username "PubicSmosh" and published on November 13, 2002. The article also included a fourth-wall–breaking reference to the article itself and, by extension, Smosh.com itself.[3]
