Try Not To Laugh Challenge (oftentimes simply refered to as Try Not To Laugh and abbreviated to TNTL) is a series that airs on the Smosh Pit channel on alternating Tuesdays.

The main layout of the series is the Hot Seat, where a cast member sits at the stool and must try not to laugh. However, other minor designs have been used, such as Prop Tart / Mystery Boxes, Green Screen, and Gauntlet (multiple Hot Seats).

It first started out as part of an untitled subsect of Squad Vlogs, a series of unscripted videos involving the Smosh Squad. Inspired by the mid- to late-2010's trend of "Try Not To Laugh" (with subtler iterations, such as "Try Not To Grin"), where the viewer would attempt to hold their laughter while watching funny Youtube compliations, the first episode debuted on March 23, 2017, and was met with extremely positive interactions.

Despite this, the video didn't branch out to be its' own series until November 1, 2018, directed by Josh Mattingly. Before then, it was only uploaded as part of either Squad Vlogs or Game Bang (on the Smosh Games channel).

Since then, many guests were involved in the series, starring alongside the Smosh Family. These include fellow Youtubers (such as MacDoesIt, KallMeKris, and Daniel Thrasher) as well as bigger names (such as Critical Role, Macaulay Culkin, and Flula Borg).

The popularity of the series eventually resulted in the Try Not To Laugh Live! tour of February 2020, eventually going global at Supa Nova, across Australia.

Hot Seat Challenge

Description

In the first newer Try Not To Laugh Challenge episode, the Smosh Squad confirmed that the game they were playing was actually called "Hot Seat". In this version, one player sits in the "hot seat" and fills their mouth with water; their objective is to keep it in their mouth for the full time limit of thirty seconds. The remaining players take it in turns to try and make the player in the hot seat laugh; they "win" if they make the player spit out (or swallow) the water within the time limit.
