Cruise is an outspoken member of and advocate for the Church of Scientology and its associated social programs; in the 2000s, he sparked controversy with his Church-affiliated criticisms of psychiatry and anti-depressant drugs, his efforts to promote Scientology as a religion in Europe, and a leaked video interview of him promoting Scientology.[1]

Throughout his career as an actor, Cruise has received various accolades for his work, including three Golden Globe Awards and three Acadamy Award nominations. He is one of the highest-paid and highest-grossing box office stars of all time, with a net worth of $570 million and his films having grossed over $4 billion in North America and over $10.1 billion worldwide.[1]

Personality

Appearance

Tom Cruise had light skin, blue eyes (which, in real life, are green), and brown hair that is combed to the side. In "Feet for Hands", he wore a red, short-sleeve collared shirt. In "TOM CRUISE IS MY ROOMMATE", his wardrobe changed to an all-black outfit consisting of a dark shirt with long sleeves rolled up near the elbows and equally dark-colored jeans.

History

"Easy Step"

"Good evening. I'm Tom Cruise. We just received word that the Easy Step has been recalled due to twenty-seven related deaths, and... Hold on, I'm getting breaking news. I've just been fired!"
—Tom Cruise reporting on the news.[src]
Easy Step - Breaking News

Tom Cruise reports on the recalling of the Easy Step.

Interrupting a commercial for the Easy Step is a "Breaking News" broadcast with Tom Cruise as the anchor. Cruise reports that the Easy Step has been recalled because of twenty-seven deaths relating to the device. At that moment, Cruise recieves word that he has been fired, which he admits he likely deserves, as he had been sleeping with the wife of the producer. As Cruise smugly smirks, a voice off-screen informs him that he was actually fired for tardiness, which wipes away Cruise's smirk as he realizes that no one had known about his affair, causing him to silently stare around the room in shock.[2]

"TOM CRUISE IS MY ROOMMATE"

A new roommate

Cruise: "Hey, guys. I am so jazzed to be a part of this whole "normal life" thing with roommates and one-ply toilet paper and carpet and ferns..."
Anthony: "Holy sh*t. Are you Tom Cruise?"
— Tom Cruise introducing himself to Ian and Anthony.[src]
Tom Cruise is My Roommate - Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise is Ian and Anthony's new roommate.

Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla have accepted a new roommate into the Smosh House and open the door to find none other than Tom Cruise standing before them, who exclaims how "jazzed" he is to "be a part of this whole 'normal life' thing", listing a few everyday items he is apparently not used to, such as carpet, ferns, and one-ply toilet paper. Stepping inside, a starstruck Anthony asks Cruise if he is indeed Tom Cruise, to which Cruise responds by ominously staring at the two before neck-chopping Ian, startling him. Cruise exclaims "Roommates!" and cackles to himself as he leaves, leaving Ian and Anthony in confusion.[3]

Sometime later, Ian and Anthony are playing The Settlers of Catan with their new roommate. During one of Cruise's turns, he becomes distracted by their couch and asks them if their couch is new, explaining that he "loves" their couch. Anthony tries to agree, but he is interrupted as Cruise approaches the couch, gets on top of it between Ian and Anthony, and promptly running in place while repeatedly shouting "Couch!" before cackling and holding hands with Ian, who was trying to gesture him away from the couch.[4]

Later, Ian and Anthony open the refrigerator for food, only to find its entire contents removed and replaced with a bucket with a label reading "The Juice". As they express their confusion, Cruise appears in front of them with an ominous orange glow as he dramatically explains that it is "magma... pure magma," a claim Ian considers impossible. When he says "impossible", Anthony interrupts him, comparing the magma in the bucket to the missions Cruise goes on in his role on Mission Impossible. In reaction to this, Cruise turns around and gives Anthony the same stare he gave when he was asked if he was Tom Cruise for a few seconds before neck-chopping Ian again and exclaiming "Roomates! Roomados! Doing karate with my roomatie!", then cackling again and leaving.[5]

Increased antics

"F.Y.I., everything I own self-destructs after five seconds. Five, four, three, two, uno, boom! Boom... boom, boommates, roommates, yeah!"
—Cruise to Ian and Anthony.[src]
Tom Cruise is My Roommate - Shared Shower

Cruise joins Ian in the shower.

Later, Ian is showering and open his eyes, only to find Tom Cruise standing with him in the shower, nude, a sight that startles him. Cruise explains that he hates using toilet paper and moves Ian aside as he bends his buttocks over to face the water, all the while giggling.[6]

Ian and Anthony later argue in the kitchen; Anthony is frustrated that Cruise is only neck-chopping Ian, and Ian is greatly annoyed by the neck-chopping. While they talk, Ian picks up Cruise's cell phone off the ground and tries to tell Cruise about it. However, the phone self-destructs, causing Ian to jerk his hand away in pain. At that moment, Cruise approaches from around the corner to inform them that everything he owns self-destructs after five seconds. Demonstrating this, he counts down from five and shouts "Boom!" before connecting "boom" to "roommates". He snickers then hollers in glee and runs across the floor out of sight on all fours.[7]

One night, Ian turns over in bed, only to see Cruise in bed with him. Cruise mentions that his sheets "were all stained" and snickers. Ian's rage boils inside for a few seconds before he points to the door and shouts at Cruise to leave. Cruise responds with a simple "No."[8]

Later, Ian and Anthony place down a new couch after the previous one was destroyed by Cruise repeatedly jumping on it. As Anthony laments over how it has been three weeks and he has not been neck-chopped once, Tom Cruise appears and starts jumping and dancing on the new couch, much to the frustration of Anthony and anger of Ian, who is promptly neck-chopped.[9]

Later, a frustrated Ian is sitting on the couch while Cruise sits on the table and continuously points and laughs at him. Anthony enters, curious to see what is going on, and Ian explains that he only instructed their roommate that they wash their clothes instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Ian and Anthony leave the room together while Cruise continues to point, clap, and laugh. That night, Ian and Anthony peek around the corner to see Cruise still on the table, laughing in the dark.[10]

Leaving for home

Tom Cruise: "Look, guys, this whole thing has been a blast, and I really like your couches, but, uh... I have to go. SAAAAAH!"
Ian: "Where?"
Tom Cruise: "Home."
—Tom Cruise announces that he must leave for "home".[src]
Tom Cruise is My Roommate - Going Home

Cruise is beamed home.

While Ian finally convinces Anthony that they should look for a new roommate, Cruise approaches them and explains that living with them has been fun and that he "really" likes their couches, but he has to leave, and promptly neck-chops the both of them. A cautious Ian asks where he is going, to which Cruise responds by getting in Ian's face and saying "Home." He skips out the door into the front lawn, crosses his arms across his chest in an "X" shape, and is beamed away in an effect similar to Star Trek. As Ian and Anthony look on, Anthony laments how Cruise finally neck-chopped him, Ian comments that he destroyed three of their couches, and Anthony adds that he had left his cat, which promptly explodes.[11]

"SHOWER PARTY W/ TOM CRUISE (BTS)"

"Who are we, except what we see? It's just me and yous, 'cuz I am Tom Cruise."
—Shayne, as Tom Cruise, improvising a poem.[src]
TomCruiseIsMyRoommateBTS - Poem

Tom Cruise improvises a poem about himself.

During the filming of "TOM CRUISE IS MY ROOMMATE", Shayne stayed in character, or at least for the filming of the corresponding behind-the-scenes video. Notable examples include:

  • Tom Cruise contemplates how grass grows in the form of a poem. Ian requests another poem, so Cruise improvises another poem, as transcribed above.[12]
  • Cruise talks to the camera about how he can know details about a person simply by looking at them, including when they last used the bathroom and when they lasted combed their hair.[13]
  • Cruise further pesters Ian while the two are in bed.[14]
  • Cruise talks to the camera about how he can look at a computer and know if it is a Mac or a PC, a power he only knows comes from inside.[15]
