Synopsis[]

Jerry arrives to work late, interrupting Augustus’ training. Jerry tells his employees that what the Spud Hut needs to get more business is better marketing. Tater recommends Instagram, while Augustus recommends setting up an Alternate Reality Game (ARG). Jerry rejects both suggestions, saying that they need a commercial. He’s hired people from Smish, Tomey and Olivia, to help direct their commercial.

However, trouble brews when it’s revealed that Smish has hired an actor, Keith, to play Jerry. Pulling Tomey aside, Jerry asks if he could just play himself in the commercial, as he has acting experience. Tomey dismisses him and says that Keith is better for the part.

During this, Augustus and Tater have a conversation with Olivia and Keith about Tater’s ex, Barney. Olivia calls Tater pathetic, which Tater at first denies, but then agrees and asks Olivia what she can do to improve herself. Olivia tells Tater that she should lean into being more pathetic.

Olivia asks Tater if she is gay. Tater says that she’s had the Pride Spud four times.

While giving Keith acting directions, Tomey says that Jerry Spruce is a weirdo. During his talking head interview, Jerry says that he didn’t understand the direction that the commercial was taking and that he didn’t like Keith's interpretation of him.

During the shooting of the commercial, Augustus walks into the shot holding cardboard signs. He apologies for interrupting, saying he thought it would add “life” to the commercial. Before he leaves, he places the cardboard signs around. Olivia shouts to call security after Augustus continues placing the signs. Tater, infatuated with her, runs to find a security guard.

After continued chaos behind the scenes, including Augustus leaving a toy horse on the counter, Tomey says that he can no longer work on the commercial and leaves.

Tater notices Frite just outside the restaurant. She accuses Frite of spying, but Frite says that she just wanted to check in and see if she was okay. Tater says that she’s more than okay: She’s pathetic. The two have a heartfelt conversation before being interrupted by Jerry. After singing to herself, Tater exclaims that she has an idea for a new potato.
