Cast of Smosh

The Smosh Family in 2017 (Missing: Anthony, Lasercorn and Sohinki)

The Smosh Family (or the Smosh Fam) is the term used to describe the entirety of the regular Smosh and Smosh Games cast members. The name originated from the group's tendency to refer to themselves as a family and is currently used both by fans and Smosh itself alike.

Below is a list of all current and former Smosh Family members.

History

Increasing the Family

Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla founded Smosh on November 19, 2005. On April 23, 2011, Mari Takahashi officially joined the Smosh Family, hosting the show Smosh Pit Weekly on the IanH channel. On September 26, 2012, Clevver Games officially joined with Smosh to create Smosh Games, adding David "Lasercorn" Moss, Joshua "Jovenshire" Ovenshire and Matthew "Sohinki" Sohinki to the Smosh Family. Having appeared in Smosh Games videos throughout 2014, Amra "FlitZ" Ricketts and Wesley "Wes" Johnson were inducted into the Smosh Family on October 12 of the same year. On March 13, 2015, Keith Leak Jr., Noah Grossman and Olivia Sui joined, forming the Smosh Squad, with Courtney Miller and later Shayne Topp (as part of Smosh Summer Games) joining the group. They were both inducted on July 17, 2015. Ericka "Boze" Bozeman joined the Smosh family at Smosh Winter Games: Again! in February, 2017, and Damien Haas began appearing in videos since March 2017. The two were both inducted on August 4, 2017.

Departures and Defy

On June 14, 2017, Anthony officially announced that he was leaving Smosh and working on his own personal channel and content. Two months later, on August 5, 2017, Lasercorn and Sohinki confirmed on their personal channels that there were becoming part-time member of Smosh Games, and they would be appearing less frequently in Smosh content, with Lasercorn appearing in more videos than Sohinki. On January 4, 2018 in order to legally combat accusations of sexual assault by several women on social media, while not wanting to "risk having a negative impact" on Smosh Games (and Smosh as a whole), Flitz left Smosh with immediate effect. As revealed in the eleventh episode of the SmoshCast, Joven and Mari both became freelancers on May 1, 2018, but continued to regularly appear in Smosh Games videos and their departure from Defy Media was never announced. Meanwhile, new cast members, including Kimmy Jimenez, began to appear in Smosh sketches, in an attempt to gradually introduce the audience to the new cast members. However, on November 6, 2018, Defy Media announced the immediate closure of the company, meaning all employees of Defy, and thus Smosh, were now unemployed. Whilst Ian, the Smosh Squad and Damien continued to make videos for Smosh, the members of the Smosh Games Crew did not appear in any Smosh videos, continuing to work on their personal channels. On January 12, 2019, Boze announced that she was seeking new job opportunities and was leaving YouTube, and thus Smosh.

Mythical Acquisition

On February 22, 2019, it was announced that Mythical Entertainment had acquired Smosh. As part of this move to Mythical, Ian, Courtney, Shayne and Damien became the main cast members of Smosh, whilst Olivia, Keith and Noah took on a recurring role. On April 10, Smosh Games relaunched, with the Smosh Games Crew and the Smosh Squad joining together so only the Smosh Family existed. Both Mari and Lasercorn returned to relaunch the Smosh Games channel, while Wes and Joven confirmed they were to become part-time members and appear less frequently in Smosh content. Kimmy was the only member of the cast hired before Defy's closure to return to Smosh, taking part in Smosh Summer Games: Apocalypse, and would later be confirmed as a member of the Smosh Family on March 20, 2020. At the same time, Sarah Whittle, Matt Raub, Tommy Bowe and Spencer Agnew began appearing in more Smosh content as well as working as crew, with Sarah taking part in HALLOWEEN JUST DANCE 2020. On March 4, 2020, Mari, Joven, Lasercorn, Sohinki, Flitz and Wes reunited to form New Element Six, implying that they had all officially left Smosh, but Mari continued to appear in some videos throughout early 2020. On May 22, 2020, Jacklyn Uweh was inducted into the Smosh Family. On June 5, 2020, Mari confirmed on her Twitch stream that she had left Smosh to focus on New Element Six and her personal channel.

On June 26, 2020, NE6 seemed to come to a close. Following a statement made by Wes regarding allegations against him, Mari, Lasercorn, and Joven all came forward with the news that they each were going to step away from New Element Six, and focus on their own projects. The last video on the NE6 channel was uploaded on June 24, 2020.

Trivia

  • Out of the fifteen official Smosh members, most come from either California or Ohio. All current and former members now officially reside in Los Angeles, CA.
    • Anthony, Ian, Mari, Jovenshire, Olivia, Noah and Courtney all grew up in California. Anthony and Ian are both from Sacramento, Noah comes from San Fernando Valley, Courtney comes from Thousand Oaks, Olivia grew up in Arcadia, Mari is from San Francisco,[1] and Joven is from Hollywood.
    • Lasercorn, Wes and Keith all come from Ohio. Lasercorn is from "the Cleveland area",[2] and Keith is from the city of Middletown,[3] but he and Wes both grew up in Cincinnati.[4]
    • Flitz comes from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
    • Boze comes from Virginia.
    • Damien grew up in Georgia. He has lived in Peachtree City and Atlanta, at least according to Famous Birthdays.[5]
    • Shayne comes from Phoenix, Arizona, but he lived in Virginia for four years and moved to California when he was sixteen.
  • Mari was the first Smosh Family member other than Ian or Anthony to be introduced. She is also the only newer member who didn't originally join as a part of Smosh Games or the Smosh Squad.
    • In keeping with this, Mari was initially sometimes known as "the third member" of Smosh.
  • Though most of the cast met one another after being hired by Smosh, many of the later cast members knew each other prior to working there.
    • Joven, Lasercorn, Sohinki, Flitz and Wes met while working at MahaloGames, a YouTube brand they all worked on for several years. Joven, Lasercorn and Sohinki later left Mahalo to work for Clevver Games, before they were hired together by Ian and Anthony to form Smosh Games; Flitz and Wes both joined Smosh behind the scenes at around the same time, and were later assimilated into the main cast.
    • Shayne and Noah met in 2009 through acting classes.
    • Shayne and Damien met on the set of So Random!, a Disney Channel spinoff show, and were living together at the time of Shayne's Smosh audition. It was Shayne who later got Damien a job at Smosh Games.[6]
    • Courtney and Olivia knew each other through their Vine work, and Olivia encouraged Courtney to attend the Smosh audition.
  • Lasercorn is the oldest member of the Smosh Family, and Noah is the youngest. There is an age gap between them of roughly twelve-and-a-half years.
  • In total, three members of the Smosh Family are married. Lasercorn was engaged before he joined Smosh Games and married his wife soon after joining; Joven got married in late 2017, and Mari got married in April 2018.
    • Coincidentally, all three are from the original Smosh Games lineup, meaning by default both that nobody in the Smosh Squad (or the new Smosh Games lineup) is married yet and that the only original Smosh Games member to be unmarried is Sohinki.
    • As well as being the first to get married, Lasercorn is currently the only cast member who has a child.
  • Prior to 2017, it seemed to be an unwritten rule that all Smosh Games members had to use some kind of nickname as their online persona. The first member to join who wasn't known as something other than their given name was Damien.
    • Mari and Wes's names still apply to this rule, as they use nicknames for their online work rather than their full first names. However, they are unique among the first seven Smosh Games members for using a shortened version of their first names as a nickname, though both have used longer online names in the past.
    • None of the Smosh Squad use nicknames on a regular basis.
  • Almost every Smosh Family member has at least one sibling, whether fully related or only on one side.
    • Ian and Damien each have one older sister.
    • Olivia has one younger half-sister.
    • Sohinki and Noah both have two older brothers.
    • Shayne also has two brothers (sometimes identified as his half-brothers).
    • Joven and Lasercorn both have at least one brother.
    • Mari has one older brother.
    • Anthony has two half-brothers.
    • Keith has three sisters and one half-brother. He has also had a total of six step-siblings.
    • Wes and Courtney are both one of seven children.
      • Wes is known to have two younger brothers and one younger sister (at least two of which may be his half-siblings), and Courtney has three older sisters and three brothers (one older, two younger).
    • Flitz apparently has several half-siblings.
    • Boze has never explicitly mentioned whether or not she has siblings. According to Famous Birthdays, she has one brother and one sister.[7]
