Synopsis[]
Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox lip sync to the theme song of Pokémon.
Lyrics[]
I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause
I will travel across the land
Searching far and wide
Each Pokémon, to understand
The power that's inside!
(Pokémon! Gotta catch 'em all!)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny!
(Pokémon!)
Ooh, you're my best friend
In a world we must defend!
(Pokémon! Gotta catch 'em all!)
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through!
You teach me, and I'll teach you
Pokémon!
Gotta catch 'em all! Gotta catch 'em all!
Yeah...
Every challenge along the way
With courage I will face
I will battle every day
To claim my rightful place!
Come with me, the time is right
There's no better team
Arm in arm, we'll win the fight
It's always been our dream!
(Pokémon! Gotta catch 'em all!)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny!
(Pokémon!)
Ooh, you're my best friend
In a world we must defend!
(Pokémon! Gotta catch 'em all!)
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through!
You teach me, and I'll teach you
(Pokémon!)
(Gotta catch 'em all!)
Gotta catch 'em all!
Gotta catch 'em all
Gotta catch 'em all!
Gotta catch 'em all!
Yeah...
[Guitar solo]
(Pokémon! Gotta catch 'em all!)
It's you and me
I know it's my destiny!
(Pokémon)
Ooh, you're my best friend
In a world we must defend!
(Pokémon! Gotta catch 'em all!')
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through!
You teach me and I'll teach you
(Pokémon!)
(Gotta catch 'em all!)
Gotta catch 'em all!

Legacy[]
The video is considered by most to be the one that started Smosh's rise to YouTube fame. It garnered over 24 million views, making it the most watched video on YouTube before being surpassed by Evolution of Dance. However, the Pokémon Company claimed that the video infringed on their copy protection and Smosh was forced to remove the video. In 2008, Smosh made a short April Fools video about being sued for $20M and being taken to court, because of the removed video. To pay homage to it, five years after the original video, Smosh published a music video called Pokémon Theme Song REVENGE.
Trivia/Notes[]
- The video was about three minutes long.
- After Ian catches Pikachu, a shot of Anthony in SpongeBob SquarePants underwear is abruptly shown for a second. Anthony then wears the same underwear 7 years later in the 2012 videos STUCK IN A TOILET! and WORST ID PHOTO EVER!
- At one point in the video, Ian licks and puts a Jesus figurine in his mouth. Some Catholic and Christian viewers called it "blasphemy." Ian responded in a video, saying that they did not believe it was, and they thought Jesus was "a pretty cool dude." Ian said he would be perfectly fine if the same thing happened to a figurine of him.
- The Pokédex that Ian used was actually a contest prize for whoever can make the best Pokémon video, and they won. With the prize being a Pokédex, they decided to use it in this video.
- After the first chorus, Anthony is seen pulling his eyes back, which many viewers thought was a racist stereotype of Japanese people. However, Ian and Anthony said that Anthony was trying to imitate Brock from the Pokémon TV show.
- In the second chorus, Ian and Anthony sing using their belly buttons. This was a reference to a tribe in Africa whose language system is so primitive, they communicated using their belly buttons. Ian said that he thought that over half of the original video's views came from that one tribe.
- At one point, Anthony sings to a bottle of Mountain Dew. He claimed he did this because he was thirsty.
- During the guitar solo, Ian sends out a Pokémon called "Anthonymon" (which is really just Anthony).
- Anthony claimed that he walked on all fours for two days to train for the Anthonymon scene.
- The video could be viewed on Newgrounds until it was removed sometime 2017–2019 along with the other Smosh videos.
- This was the last Smosh video to be released on Newgrounds.
- This is the fourth and last Smosh video of 2005.
- The video has been brought back to YouTube by several users, mostly notably by Andii2000 that gained over 17,000,000 views before it was deleted.
- In 2007, a commentary was made for this video. It can be found on Smosh.com and it is the first Smosh extra.
- In this video, Ian responded to the controversial Jesus figurine scene.
- The video was also shown on The Fine Brothers' and BBC Radio 1's YouTube Channel.
- Many people mistake this for their first video when in reality, it was just their first popular video. Their first video was Power Rangers Theme.
- In commemoration to this video, in the movie Smosh: The Movie, a parody of Pokémon named Magic Pocket Slave Monsters appears in it.
- It was uploaded ten days before Ian's 18th birthday.
- This video can still been on Smosh's creator studio tab.
