Facebook Technologies, LLC, doing business as Oculus, is an American technology company based in Menlo Park, California. It was founded in July 2012 by Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Michael Antonov and Nate Mitchell in Irvine, California. The company is the creator of the Oculus Rift, which was announced in April 2012 and, after a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised $2.4 million, launched in March 2016. In March 2014, Facebook, Inc. acquired Oculus for $2.3 billion in cash and stock. In 2015, Oculus acquired Surreal Vision, a British startup focused on 3D reconstruction and mixed reality.[1]
