Description[]
A nocturnal emission, informally known as a wet dream, is an orgasm that occurs during sleep. People typically start experiencing wet dreams during puberty and they typically occur as the result of a sexual dream or stimulation of the genitals.[1]
History[]
The first appearance of wet dreams in Smosh media was in "Oh, the Joys of Puberty," a 2002 Smosh.com article written by Ian Hecox. In the article, set in 2002, fifteen-year-old Hecox started puberty and detailed a series of distressing events caused by resulting uncontrollable bodily phenomena. This included a series of wet dreams that resulted in Hecox soiling bedsheets while asleep, after which he left his family's apartment to clean his sheets at a local laundromat. At the end of the article, in the section entitled "The Reasons to love puberty," Hecox claimed that "only losers get wet dreams" and that one of the reasons he wrote the article was to scare readers who had yet to "finish[...] the job".[2]
