Nintendo Co., Ltd. is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. Founded in September 1889 by Japanese entrepreneur Fusajiro Yamauchi, the company originally produced handmade Hanafuda playing cards and, by 1963, had tried several small niche services and eventually developed into a video game company in the 1970s. Supplemented since the 1980s by its major divisions Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe, it ultimately became one of the most influential in the video game industry and one of Japan's most-valuable companies with a market value of over $37 billion in 2018. The company has created some of the best-known and top-selling video game franchises of all time, such as Super Mario, Pokémon, Kirby, and The Legend of Zelda.[1]
Nintendo has had direct impacts on the history of Smosh. For example, the channel's first big success on YouTube, "Pokemon Theme Music Video", based on the opening intro of the anime series based on Nintendo's Pokémon franchise. Since then, Nintendo properties and products have been prominently included in many of Smosh's videos and other media. Major figures at Nintendo have appeared on Smosh, such as Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie Fils-Aimé, and the company has even sponsored two videos on Smosh Games.
