Professor McGonagall is reading a book in her office when Harry Potter approaches her. Harry asks if McGonagall can sign his permission slip that would allow him to visit Hogsmeade. McGonagall declines, as only a parent or guardian's signature would be valid. Harry, a bit incredulous, asks why he needs a signature to visit Hogsmeade when no such thing exists regarding involvement in far more dangerous activities such as Quidditch, the Triwizard Tournament, and fighting a Boggart as part of a Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson. An irritated McGonagall confirms that this is the case while sliding Harry's permission slip to him. Harry, frustrated, grabs the slip and leaves.
