Metal Gear is a series of action-adventure stealth games created by Hideo Kojima and developed and published by Konami. The player often takes control of a special forces operative (usually either Solid Snake or Big Boss), who is assigned to find the titular superweapon "Metal Gear", a bipedal walking tank with the ability to launch nuclear weapons. Several sequels for the first game, Metal Gear (1987), have been released for multiple consoles, which have expanded the original game's plot adding characters opposing and supporting Snake, while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of the Metal Gear and recurring characters.
The series is credited for pioneering and popularizing stealth games and cinematic games. The franchise has been adapted into other media such as comics, novels, and drama CDs.

- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance: A 2013 action hack-and-slash game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Konami. A spin-off in the series, it is set four years after the events of Guns of the Patriots and follows Raiden, a cyborg who confronts the private military company Desperado Enforcement, with gameplay focusing on fighting enemies using a sword and other weapons to perform combos and counterattacks. Through the use of Blade Mode, Raiden can dismember cyborgs in slow motion and steal parts stored in their bodies. The series' usual stealth elements are also optional to reduce combat. While the staff in charge has expressed desire for a sequel, they found difficulty due to issues between Konami and Kojima Productions.
- Metal Gear Survive: A 2018 action-adventure survival game developed and published by Konami. The first Metal Gear game to be developed following the departure of series creator Hideo Kojima from Konami and the first without his unput since Snake's Revenge, it takes place between the events of Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, and follows the Captain, an MSF soldier who enters a parallel dimension and establishes a local command center to unravel the mysteries of a strange virus that turns people into zombie-like creatures.
