Hey Paralie, I just wanted to check in after the forum to Discussions migration, see if everything went smoothly or if there are perhaps some posts that are giving you pause.
Additionally, I wanted to ask you if we could have a conversation about the "future" of the <tabview> tags. As you know better than me, those tags are used on a few pages on the wiki, but they may pose a problem with UCP around the corner. While those tags will initially be ported over, their support will be temporary. As such, we're going around to work with communities to find a workable solution to get rid of those tags so the community doesn't end up with broken pages.
Looking thought the pages, I think we could perhaps just delete the tags from all the year pages (2015, 2016, etc) as most of those pages don't have any content save for empty headings. For the tabview tags used on the list pages, I was hoping we could talk about different alternatives, see how you and the other admins would like to change those tags there. Hope to hear back from you soon about this.
Hey Paralie, how have you been? I just wanted to alert you to an upcoming change. As you know, Fandom is slowly migrating its wikis to the UCP platform. This move involves the deprecation of the forums in favor of Discussions as elaborated on in this blog post. Since this wiki still uses forums quite actively, this will affect this wiki as well. In the end, only the platform will change, as all threads on forum will be ported over to Discussions, where people can continue to discuss the franchise.
You will notice the appearance of a banner on the wiki that will indicate the move. At the time of the migration, the Forums will be put into a read-only state as the content is migrated automatically. Discussions will be open during and after the migration.
After the migration, you, the other admins, and discussion moderators may want to check the Discussion boards out to properly set up a categorization structure. If you have any questions in regards to this or need any help setting things up, please let me know. I'll be happy to supply or find an answer for you!
Hi, Mari has contacted us because some of the info on her page is wrong. I've offered to correct the info, but would it be possible to either make her an admin or change the 'users who can edit' settings of Mari's page so that she could edit any incorrect info herself as well as me? Her username is Atomicmarilalala :)
Hey Paralie! I'm Lostris, and I am the Wiki Manager assigned to the Smosh Wiki; I will be taking over from Kylara as part of on internal switch. No worries, just like here, I am not here to take over. As she noted before, our job is to help the community on a more local leven and serve as an easy to reach liaison between contributors and full-time Fandom staff. As such, I will be your primary point of contact should any assistance be needed, so if you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, etc., don't hesitate to leave a message on my wall and I will do my best to help. If I am unable to solve your issue, I will be able to get in contact with a staff member that can. Aside from assisting this community with any possible issues you may have, I am also here to help you out with the fun stuff, so if you have an idea or fun project that you don't quite know how to get off the ground or that you feel could use a little bit more Fandom love, do not hesitate to reach out and pitch me your idea! I will also be getting in contact with the rest of the admins in this community to introduce myself and inform them of my position.
Additionally, I want to congratulate you and the rest of this community on keeping this wiki going for so long! Coming Wednesday, this wiki will be blowing out twelve candles! That's an amazing achievement of which you may all be extremely proud! I look forward to getting to know you and working together with this community!
Hi again! Checking in to see how things are going. I'm also letting communities know about a couple more things. 2019 was a big year for Fandom, and you can check out the staff blog post This Year at Fandom - 2019.
You might have noticed that some wikis are showing new video content. The new video series, called The Loop, will have new videos weekly and will be replacing the old featured videos that were placed at the top of some wiki pages. Read more about it in the Community Central staff blog post An Update on the Future of Featured Video.
Hope you're doing well, and let me know if you have any questions!
Hello! My name is Kylara , and I'm the Fandom Wiki Manager for Smosh Wiki, so I'm going around introducing myself to the active admin here. I'm here to help the community and be a liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have any questions or issues relating to the wiki, editing, layout, design, templates, or anything of the sort, please contact me on my message wall!
I'm going around to let communities know about a couple things. The first is a new feature called Global Taxonomy, which will better personalize wiki recommendations for you and visitors. People who would be interested in your wiki content will be better able to find it, and it will help you discover content that’s interesting and relevant to you. You can read more about in the Community Central staff blog post Introducing Global Taxonomy.
Great question! If I understand correctly, the answer is sort of both. Each Wiki Manger manages multiple communities, but the wikis we manage are specific to each of us. We don't just manage any wiki at all.
So I manage other wikis, and I follow up with each of them and check in on them, because I am managing those communities specifically and I will make sure they're okay. And Smosh Wiki is one of the wikis I manage and will follow up with. So I'm here to help, and I'll follow up and make sure Smosh Wiki has what it needs long-term. I hope that addresses your concerns!
Speaking of long-term, do you have any plans for the community, and is there anything you'd like to see worked on?
Well, essentially, we've just been trying to get this wiki up to date. Ever since Atbryan61 and I took over in 2017 we've slowly been trying to get it up to speed with all of Smosh's videos and projects throughout the years, a task that Acrocadabra and Gusey1397 have been huge helps in. I haven't been able to be as active in recent months as I want because of school, but I try to help where I can.
With 6,800+ pages, you guys have certainly been busy! There's a Special page that might be of interest to you if you'd like to organize with the community where help on the wiki is needed: Special:Community.
I also noticed that you have one non-portable infobox left. Any reason for not upgrading it to portable like the others? It would be mobile-friendly, and I can help with that!
Tegarding that infobox, we've pretty much left that one alone because that was the previous infobox design and layout before I created the one you see on infoboxes like Template:Person or Template:SmoshVideo. For whatever reason, the creator of it decided that they loved a layout with a large amount of useless negative space and the need to individually name data row names and info when using it on pages in the Classic source editor (visible here). I personally hate that kind of infobox; it's ugly and a pain to edit, so one of the first things I did after becoming admin was, through lots of trial and error, make a new infobox layout and essentially ditch the old one.
Glad to hear it, I dislike the old infobox styles as well. Since it sounds like it's okay with you, I've upgraded that old infobox to match the new ones you have. All the infoboxes should look the same now, unless I'm missing any that still need to be upgraded?
The infoboxes you have look pretty good, but let me know if you have any questions about editing them, I love this stuff!
I would like to direct your attention to this message again. For the millionth time, please knock this off. This is rather un-admin-like behavior that you have been demonstrating for quite some time, and to straight up ignore messages asking you to stop like you have been is just straight up juvenile.
So, again, please cease your random link removals during your edit sprees.
