Jovenshire: "With Resident Evil 6 now out and just wonderful in front of all of us, zombies are back, and that's great. My question is: do you, Matt Mercer, with all of your experience that you have received voicing over in this game, would you survive a zombie apocalypse?"
Matthew Mercer: "Me? Eh, no! Not at all! I'm far too trusting! I would be gone in the first couple days! And I fully admit that, like, I have many friends who I know will survive to the bitter end. My girlfriend alone, she's gonna be one of those last gritty survivors who's armed to the teeth with weapons [...] and she'd be dragging around the remnants of my corpse as a weapon, probably."

LEON KENNEDY DIES IN AN INTERVIEW is the 2nd episode of Raging Bonus, hosted by Jovenshire and his interviewee Matthew Mercer. It was released on October 7, 2012.

Description[]

Matter Mercer, voice of Leon Kennedy, is Interviewed by The Jovenshire

Synopsis[]

  1. Why are you so amazing?
Mercer is genetically engineered and the voice of Leon Kennedy in the new Resident Evil 6.
  2. Since you are Leon Kennedy; this is a fan-favorite character in a franchise that everybody loves. What was is it like, jumping into that role?
For Mercer, who is a big fan of Resident Evil and Leon Kennedy since the beginning, it was very exciting and very intimidating, since he didn't want to be "the guy" that ruins a fan-favorite character.
  3. What makes Leon Leon in his voice?
For the most part, Leon is reserved and often talks to himself. He also has a bit of a swagger to him.
  4. Now, you've played through all of the Resident Evil games. Which is your favorite so far?
Either Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 4.
  5. Now, this is not your first rodeo when it comes to voice acting; like, you have a lot of impressive titles. What have you done before that we might recognize?
In video games, Mercer gave some much-needed "gravitas" to Kurtis Stryker in Mortal Kombat (2011) and voiced Fei Long in Street Fighter 4 and Super Street Fighter IV, as well as countless other roles. Upon Joven's reminder, Mercer also voices Tigra in the ThunderCats reboot.
  6. With Resident Evil 6 now out and just wonderful in front of all of us, zombies are back, and that's great. My question is: do you, Matt Mercer, with all of your experience that you have received voicing over in this game, would you survive a zombie apocalypse?
Not at all, since he is far too trusting. He fully admits that he would be gone within the first few days; in fact, his girlfriend, Marisha Ray, is much more likely to survive and would potentially be one of those people armed to the teeth with weapons, including Mercer's corpse as one such weapon.
  7. Now, you've done a lot of video game voiceovers. How much video games do you play? Have you been gaming for a while? Is there an association?
Mercer has played video games his entire life; he was that kid in the neighborhood with the biggest console that everyone nearby play on. The Super Nintendo is, to date, his favorite gaming console.
  8. Final question: With Resident Evil 6, what's your favorite part of the game?
Without spoiling anything, Mercer's favorite parts are when the storyline crosses the paths of Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield, which eventually comes to a full-on confrontation between the two iconic Resident Evil characters.
  9. You did the voice, so we gotta hear some stuff here. What is your favorite death? Can we hear your voice?
One of Mercer's favorite deaths to voice was when a character is grabbed, choked, and have something vomit into their mouth that dissolves their insides. Mercer then does the sounds associated with this death, much to Joven's disgusted delight.
