Celery is a food on Smosh most notable as the favorite food of Anthony Padilla in "Food Battle 2007".

Description[]

Celery (Apium graveolens) is a plant in the Apiaceae family. Cultivated as a vegetable since antiquity, celery has a long fibrous stalk that tapers into leaves that are sometimes trimmed before consumption.[7]

History[]

"Food Battle 2007"[]

FoodBattle20074

Anthony challenges Ian to a rematch, using his new favorite food, celery.

Anthony: "I'm fine, and with the help of my new favorite food, we're gonna crush you!"
Ian: "If you think your celery is gonna beat my pink frosted sprinkled donut, then you're goin' down!"
— Anthony challenging Ian.[src]

Celery was the second chosen favorite food of Anthony in Food Battle 2007, when Anthony challenged Ian and his Pink Frosted Sprinkled Donut to a rematch. Throughout the battle, Anthony successfully used his celery as a squeegee, enthusiastically wiping his car's window; a pogo stick, using his stick of celery to "bounce [him] to victory"; and lure for people, managing to lead Benny Jean on a chase around the block before the redneck catches and devours the celery; but failed to use it as an oven mitt, unable to secure a grip on the pan; a knife, breaking his stick of celery while trying to cut a baguette; and a tool for mugging people, failing to obtain his target's money.[1]

"Breaking the Habit"[]

Breaking the Habit - Ian eating celery

Anthony: "What's up with the celery?"
Ian: "Oh. My New Year's resolution is to eat healthier... and to get potty-trained."
— Anthony asking Ian why he is eating celery.[src]

Ian dramatically ate a stick of celery out of a bowl as a result of his New Year's resolution to eat healthier and, as he explained to Anthony, potty-trained. Anthony inquired about the latter, prompting Ian to defensively prod Anthony if his resolution is to stop picking his nose. Anthony confirmed so and, upon seeing Ian laugh at his resolution, noted that he does not "crap [his] pants", causing Ian to start crying and run away with his celery.[5]

"CELERY NOSE PICKER!!!"[]

One of the Smosh.com articles featured in this Smosh Pit Weekly episode featured a man playing a nose flute that was made to resemble a stick of celery.[8]

"VEGANISM (Do's & Don'ts #3)"[]

The meat-loving Susie was being conformed to veganism by Vicky, who explained that she could not eat anything that was not a vegetable, nor was suffering. Susie interpreted this to mean that she could eat Clifford, whose doctors described him as a vegetable, and compared his inactivity to celery.[9]

Narrator: "But then he found the one rule that even he couldn't break: True love conquers all."
Egg Roll: "I love you, Celery. Will you marry me?"
Celery: "Of course I will, Egg Roll!"

In the campaign video, a stick of celery was used as the wife of the highly skilled ninja assassin Egg Roll, who returned home one night to find Celery being held at gunpoint by Corn Dog, a minion of the evil mastermind Pink Frosted Sprinkled Donut. Celery is shot by Corn Dog, who escapes. Egg Roll, heartbroken, is told by a dying Celery to avenge her. Later, Corn Dog is killed by Egg Roll as he was reporting Celery's murder to his master. Egg Roll says to the donut that he will pay. At the end of the campaign video, the narrator encourages viewers to vote for Egg Roll so that he can avenge Celery.[10]

"this had to happen"[]

This had to happen - Celery

Taquitos, celery, and churros were available for sale by the Food Battle Reporter.

"I'll take one of all my past favorite foods. That's one taquito, celery, churro, burrito, red hot chili pepper, rainbow lollipop, eggroll, giant gummy snake, rock candy, and a chocolated-coated banana, all for just fifty cents."
—Anthony to the Food Battle Reporter[src]

Sticks of celery were among the gallery of Anthony's past favorite foods for sale set up by a desperate Food Battle Reporter trying to jog the minds of Ian and Anthony, who had apparently forgotten to do Food Battle 2016. Anthony gladly accepted one of each of his past favorite foods, all for fifty cents.[6]
