A coin is a small, usually metal object used as currency. It first appeared in Smosh media in "Oh, the Joys of Puberty," a 2002 Smosh.com article written by Ian Hecox.

Description[]

A coin is a small object usually made of metal that is used as currency, certified by markings on it as being of a specific value. A coin's front side is called the obverse, or heads, and the back side is called the reverse, also known as tails.[1]

History[]

In 2002, a laundromat two blocks away from an apartment building in which the Hecox family lived offered coin-operated washing machines to customers. That year, after soiling his bedsheets during a wet dream, fifteen-year-old Ian Hecox ran to the laundromat to get his sheets washed but forgot to bring some change with him, forcing him to return home to grab some quarters. On the way, he was delayed during a run-in with the apartment building's security guard. Upon returning to the laundromat, he found his sheets being stolen by a homeless man, leaving Hecox to return home empty-handed.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Coins were introduced in Smosh media in the form of quarters in "Oh, the Joys of Puberty," a Smosh.com article submitted by[2] Staff member Ian Hecox[3] under the username "PubicSmosh" and published on November 13, 2002.[2]
