Description[]

The Bicycle Kick is a type of kick attack featured in Mortal Kombat, a series of fighting video games created by Midway Games Inc. and NetherRealm Studios. It first appeared in Mortal Kombat II as an one of the Special Moves attacks in the character Liu Kang's moveset, in which Kang leaps in the air and repeatedly kicks his opponent in the face in a motion reminiscent of riding a bicycle.[2] After its debut, the Bicycle Kick would remain a regular attack in Liu Kang's moveset in subsequent games.[3] Mortal Kombat's Bicycle Kick is based on a real-world kick used in professional wrestling.[4]

The Bicycle Kick first appeared on Smosh in the 2005 Theme Song Music Video "Mortal Kombat Theme," in which the move was performed by Ian Hecox against his opponent, Anthony Padilla. In the video, after spinning Padilla around in his swivel chair, Hecox ran to Padilla, who was standing next to the door in his bedroom. Hecox jumped up, spun his legs around in a circular motion, and connected the final kick with the bottom of Padilla's jaw. During this segment, text reading "BICYCLE KICK!!!" in alternating colors is visible onscreen.[1]

After the kick, the two continued their duel until Padilla emerged victorious.[1]
